SENSORY AND PHOBIA SESSIONS
Sensory sessions (amazing experience for nursing/care homes)
We will bring along a calm and friendly selection of animals to meet your residents or group.
This could be our naughty "talking" parrot (who is not allowed to any kind of childrens parties or events due to his "colourful and unpredictable language BUT the older generation LOVE him!!) maybe our reptiles and some of our docile mammals.
(dependant on requirements and suitability)
Animal therapy has proved extremely beneficial for the elderly and those in residential care as quite often residents have had to leave their homes and sometimes their beloved pets behind. Animal Therapy is a stimulating and exciting addition to traditional therapeutic methods. Our services can help children, adolescents, adults and older people with mental health needs, physical or learning disabilities to achieve increased health, wellbeing and quality of life. Animals make a huge impact on children and adults that are unable to express their feelings to other people, we have watched many children with conditions such as ADHD, Downs syndrome, Aspergers and other spectrums of autism who sit silently in awe of our animals and what we have to say about them.
Many Carers/parents are shocked that children that usually find it so difficult to communicate can interact and love animals so much.
Parents and carers will watch on as children (and adults) feel, stroke and love The animals that are all different textures, shapes and sizes to touch and get a great deal of pleasure being able to feel and hold the animals. To watch peoples faces light up and be so excited after touching our animals gives a huge sense of satisfaction for us and everyone in the room. (and the animals are thrilled to be getting lots of love and attention!!
Physical contact is important to all mammals (including humans) mental health, we are social animals ourselves so someone Stroking and cuddling an animal is extremely therapeutic. Animal assisted therapy is used as an occupational therapy tool within psychology and is proven to improve the spirit-mind-body interconnectedness, reducing both anxiety and blood pressure. The interaction and relationship between people and animals has also been shown to reduce stress and promote well being; increase socialization ; improve self esteem and confidence, promote quality of life and encourage nurturance and responsibility.
